Supply chain manager for Jack bean crop acquisition in China
About the Nextkidney project:
One of the long-lasting projects supported by ProtIn consultancy is that on developing the portable haemodialysis device for kidney patients to enable them a daily dialysis at home. This will provide patients depending on regular dialysis a major increase in the quality of life and life expectation. One of the crucial elements in the disposable cartridge to be used on a daily basis is that of a protein (enzyme) that is embedded in the cartridge to break down urea that is accumulated in the blood and very toxic. Dialysis removes this compound from the blood but needs to be broken down enzymatically in the dialysis fluid. This enzyme is currently extracted from the non-commercial crop Jack Bean, a (sub-)tropical crop that is specifically grown for Nextkidney bv by farmer cooperations in the provinces of Guanxi and Shanxi in China. As in the next years scaling up of the Jack Bean production is essential to help more patients with kidney failure we need to intensify, extend and optimize the collaboration with farmer cooperations in China.
Responsibilities
- Work together with local farmer cooperation’s in the provinces Guanxi and Shanxi to warrant sufficient production of the required volumes of Jack beans needed for the production of cartridges for home hemodialysis
- Elaborate the contracts for long-term acquisition of Jack beans on behalf of ProtIn consultancy
- Communicate to the relevant parties to facilitate all logistics for customs and ex- and import
- Expectation management to ProtIn consultancy, Nextkidney bv and the Dutch kidney foundation
- Assure the long-term supply of Jack beans in-line with the market demands and implementation of the supply in the upstream production of cartridges
Qualifications
The ideal candidate for the Nextkidney-project has:
- Fluent Chinese writing and speaking skills
- Good English communication skills
- Extensive experience (>5 years) in regional business development in China (preferably within the province of Shanxi and/or Guanxi)
- Experienced in working with governmental authorities for legislation and venture capital investments
- Publishing experiences in Chinese and English is appreciated
- Affinity with healthcare and traditional agricultural farming
- The capacity to be a linking pin between Chinese organizations and people involved in the supply chain of the home-dialysis device developed in the Netherlands.
Conditions
The candidate is expected to move to the Netherlands and will be situated at the ProtIn consultancy headquarters in Zeist. As part of the tasks the candidate is expected to travel on a regular basis to China.
